Frequently Asked Questions;
Q: WHAT INTERNET BROWSER IS REQUIRED TO TAKE THE ONLINE COURSES?
Requirements: These are just minimums. We recommend keeping all your software updated.
Recommended minimum browser (as of 3/2018):
- Most recent Google Chrome (48 or higher)
- Most recent Mozilla Firefox - 48 (for PC and Mac)
- Safari 8 minimum
- Internet Explorer (IE 10 or above required for drag and drop of files from outside the browser into Moodle) IE 11 or EDGE is preferred
IE10 and below and Safari 7 and below, are no longer supported by our vendor/Moodle. They may work, but will most likely cause issues. Like most of the world's Web sites and browser producers, we encourage you to keep your browsers current to improve security (most important) and functionality while saving us valuable support time.
IE6 and IE7 are not recommended for Moodle 3.0+ at all. You will encounter difficulties trying to use those old browsers in today's Internet.

Q: WHAT DO I DO IF I FORGET MY PASSWORD ?
You may click on the "forgotten your username or password?" link in the system. You will receive an email with a temporary password that allows you to log-in and set a new password. If you do not have a valid email account contact the learning administrator for your agency.
In order for this to work, you MUST have either the username or password correct. The email in the system under your profile must also be correct as this is where your new credentials will be sent. Please remember that departments can no longer reset passwords. It MUST be done through this function.
Q: HOW DO I CHANGE MY PASSWORD IF I WANT A DIFFERENT ONE?
To Change your password you must first be logged in. From the home page screen, go to the bottom where you will see the Moodle logo. It tells you that you are logged in as “Your name”. Click on your name and it will take you to a screen where you are able to view your profile information as well as use the ‘change password’ button to update your credentials whenever you choose.
Q: WHY DO I HAVE TO USE MY LICENSE OR STATE EMPLOYEE NUMBER?
Yes. All users are required to have a unique identifier: that number assigned to them that is unique to any other. System assigned numbers were not used since many employees work for multiple state/municipal/county agencies or move from employment in one agency to another and to avoid creation of duplicate accounts, the license and/or state ID will reduce that from occurring. Neither number is a protected form of identification under EO504.
Q: A WARNING MESSAGE SOMETIMES TELLS ME THAT MY COMPUTER HAS BLOCKED ‘ ACTIVE X’ . DO I HAVE TO ACCEPT THIS TO RUN THE COURSES?
Yes, you must click the message to ‘run Active X’ in order for your course to run properly and in some instances for it to display at all.

JAVA IS REQUIRED for the scripting to run properly in the reporting sections of the software.
Q: HOW CAN I EASILY TELL WHERE I AM IN THE COURSE AND WHAT I HAVE OR HAVE NOT COMPLETED?
In each course is an activity block which lists exams, forums, assignments, SCORMS/AICCs (the learning modules), etc. that are the parts of each e-Learning course. Click on the exam or SCORM quick-link to see a list of the course requirements, what you have completed and your scores if applicable. You can click on the other quick-links to see what has been done on those activities.
You can begin working on the next module to be done by clicking on it right from the quick-link. If you prefer to return to the course, click on the course name in the breadcrumb trail at the top of your screen and you go back to the course page where you started. There is also a short tutorial on how to navigate your course.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF I STOP MY COURSE IN THE MIDDLE WITHOUT COMPLETING IT?
The next time you return and log-in, the system will ask if you want to resume where you last left off. Always remember to log out when finished. This only works IF you use the same computer.
Q: CAN I CHECK MY SCORES MYSELF OR DOES MY SUPERVISOR HAVE TO DO IT?
All students can access their own grade book immediately upon completion in your Moodle course. Most department designated point of contacts can also access their grade book for training records. For a training report, ELIS Management will have scores recorded approximately 15 minutes after completion of your modules.
Confirmation of completion is available in one of two ways: in the course itself, there is a grade book option and on your homepage there is an ELIS report option . Either option in the report drop-down will give you a report that indicates completion records. You can also print the .pdf version for your file if you would like. Your chief, supervisor or department PoC can also do this.
Q: I NOTICED MY NAME IS SPELLED INCORRECTLY (OR my other information is incorrect). WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Should you notice any inconsistency in your training record profile, notify your commanding officer/supervisor immediately. S/he will contact the agency records person responsible for maintenance of your training records for revision.
Q: DO I NEED SPEAKERS FOR ALL COURSES?
You will need speakers for many courses as there are audio and/or video files or instructions of some sort included with most courses. You may substitute any style of ear buds/headphones if you wish to reduce disturbing others.
You are also able to turn off sound in some courses that have a text-audio option. Some courses have required audio as it may be somewhat different from the material displayed on the screen.
